Door Dec: Simple Crown

Crown Door Dec
(Dia, Valparaiso University)

Materials:

  •  Colored paper (card stock, printer paper, or construction paper will all work)
  • Glitter Glue
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • PTHB Simple Crown Template

Instructions:

Cut out the crowns from your colored paper, attach a simple color block for the name, and decorate with markers and glitter glue!

Hints & Variations:

  •  You can easily free hand the crown or choose a more complicated pattern.

Door Dec: Butterfly

Butterfly Door Dec

Supplies:

Colored Paper

Hole Punch

Glue

Scissors

Markers

Butterfly Template

Instructions:

Each door dec has 4 parts: the colorful back, the two colorful wings, and the white body portion (see the attached template for shapes). Cut out each of the parts, hole punch a few holes into the wings to give it a pattern, and glue it all together!

Hints:

  • Make sure when you cut out the wing portions, you flip the template over so you get one of each side. Theoretically they should be the same, but this makes up for small imperfections!
  • Cutting takes a long time. Get comfy scissors.

Door Dec: Aquarium

Aquarium Door Dec

 

Supplies:

Colored Paper

Fish Foam Stickers

Glitter Glue

Markers

Scissors

“Bowl” Template

Instructions:

Cut out fish bowls (you can use the template and just slice off the top and bottom or freehand it) and glue on strips of paper for sand and seaweed. Add your fishie then decorate with glitter glue.

Hints:

  • Consider adding a second fish or animal for rooms with multiple residents.
  • Replace the “sand” with “rocks” made of confetti or glitter.

Door Dec: Dino Eggs

Supplies:

Colored Paper

Markers

Scissors

Egg Template

Instructions:

Cut out eggs (freehand or use the template), add crack, speckles, and names and you’re done!

Hints:

  • Matches a Time Machine, Jurassic Park, or Wild theme.
  • Perfect for a very large number of residents.

Door Dec: Princess Heels

Supplies:

Colored Paper

Decorations (ribbon, flowers, lace etc)

Markers

Scissors

Tape or Glue/Hot Glue Gun

Shoe Template

Instructions:

Cut out shoe template and trace onto colored paper. Decorate and add names!

Hints:

  • Be creative, its surprising how much personality can be shown through different color/decoration patterns.
  • I used hot glue to put all my decorations on the shoes.

Supplies:

Colored  Paper

Scissors

Markers/Puffy Paint

Puzzle Piece Template

Directions:

Print out or print template and trace  puzzles pieces on colored paper. Cut out, decorate, and write your resident’s name!

Hints:

  • The example in the picture was texture painted with a sponge to create a unique pattern for each door dec.
  • This fits an Autism awareness theme beautifully!
